Each bin has its own unique number (container number). Through this number, other data – position, size, fraction, collection frequency, subscriber – can be tied to the container.
When waste bins are placed at the subscriber’s premises, data can be recorded using a handheld computer. Data is entered into the database in which the contractor, municipality or other actor processes the information.
Container information that is known before the waste container is placed with the subscriber is printed on a label. The label contains its unique number in the form of a barcode, followed by optional information such as size, fraction, property designation/address and possibly a customer service phone number.
When a waste bin is placed at the pick-up point, its RFID tag and position are recorded together with the bin number by scanning the barcode with a handheld computer. After registration, the main job of the label is to show which property/subscriber the bin belongs to. This facilitates handling in cases where several bins are placed next to each other.
Once it has been labelled, an RFID tag is used to identify the waste bin. This is performed automatically when the bin is emptied, using an RFID reader mounted on the vehicle.
